Corabastos—Floor-to-ceiling turnstiles

Corabastos is the main wholesale market in Colombia, guaranteeing the food supply for Bogotá and surrounding municipalities. With over 420,000 square meters dedicated to warehouses, restaurants, cafes, commercial offices, banking areas, and service stations, Corabastos opens its doors at 3:00 a.m. to receive approximately 250,000 people and 12,000 vehicles, according to DANE (National Administrative Department of Statistics) statistics.

This large wholesale market required the installation of robust and effective access control systems for pedestrians and vehicles. For pedestrian access control, Incomelec supplied and installed 14 units controlling 26 access points. These include floor-to-ceiling TRS-37X series turnstiles from Automatic Systems for pedestrian access control, and BL-229 Toll barriers from Automatic Systems at the vehicle exits. This robust system is perfect for controlling the flow of heavy vehicles at the central wholesale market. Given the high volume of traffic at this location, the barriers are more prone to impacts and dents, which is why the client chose Protecta® barriers. Currently, the wholesale market effectively and safely controls the entry and exit of pedestrians and vehicles. The floor-to-ceiling turnstiles are ideal, as they control perimeter access to the facility and offer security by being a full-height barrier. Furthermore, during the pandemic, this type of system provides greater control over the number of people entering the market.

The BL-229 Toll barriers, designed for high traffic, are perfectly suited for use at Corabastos, as they can withstand high vehicle flows and were designed for intensive use. The Protecta® barrier, made of carbon fiber, provides safety and protection for the equipment against potential vehicle collisions in high-traffic areas.
