BIOMIG 1 is a passenger access control system designed to control the immigration process by iris recognition at El Dorado Airport in Bogotá.
Colombian citizens over the age of 12 account for up to 70% of arrivals at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá. This posed a significant challenge for immigration staff, who struggled to maintain security and impartiality while facilitating entry. With globalization, airports worldwide share a crucial objective: maintaining security while simplifying immigration. Balancing these two goals has presented considerable challenges. However, digital solutions, particularly access control systems, have addressed this challenge and helped achieve these urgent objectives.
The successful BIOMIG I passenger access control system marked the first time iris recognition technology was used for border control in Latin America. It began as a two-week pilot program, consisting of 30 BIOMIG enrollment stations, 10 automatic gates and iris scanners, a monitoring station, and a secure server.
The BIOMIG I passenger access control system includes an ABC iris solution for Colombian Immigration that integrates a highly intuitive iris recognition terminal from CMITech, enabling rapid iris capture with a long range. This eliminates contact with the scanning terminal and improves convenience, speed, and ease of use for users.
Participating in the program is very simple; Colombian citizens over 12 years of age can enroll at any of the 30 BIOMIG migration control stations located at the country's exit points via this link.
The implementation of the Biomig I access control system significantly reduced the waiting time in line, from 45 minutes to 30 minutes; now the migration process takes only 30 seconds.
