Passenger access control system for mass transit (Rafael Núñez Airport of Cartagena).
Rafael Núñez International Airport, also known as Cartagena de Indias Airport, is located in the city of Cartagena, capital of the Bolívar Department. It is considered one of the most important airports in Colombia due to the high volume of national and international tourism in the area. It is situated within the urban area of Cartagena de Indias, north of the city's historic center.
This airport receives hundreds of travelers daily, who arrive in Cartagena primarily for tourism and business trips. Biomig began operating at this airport in early 2021. With this access control system, Colombian travelers entering Colombia through Cartagena's airport can complete the immigration process more comfortably, efficiently, and effectively.
Incomelec installed, supplied, and commissioned the Biomig passenger access control system in international immigration and emigration at the Rafael Núñez Airport in Cartagena.
The system, which receives an average of 78 international flights weekly, expects to reduce waiting times by up to 60% with the installation of the Biomig passenger access control system. This was achieved using Automatic Systems Skylane automated walkways with an iris recognition system. This solution integrates a highly intuitive iris recognition terminal that quickly captures iris data at a long range of 35 to 45 centimeters.
The double iris is considered the most secure biometric in the world, second only to DNA, as it ensures identity due to its false acceptance rate (FAR) of 1 in 2.3 trillion.
When Colombian passengers depart from this airport, they must enter their identification number, present their passport, answer security questions, and approach the iris scanner to authenticate their identity. This is checked against databases and alert lists from national and international authorities. Once verified, the corridor is opened.
